Computer Trends

Each year around March I review advertised prices for hard disks, flash memory and RAM. I take this new data and add it to my existing collection of annual pricing data and then use it to perform some analysis on pricing and capacity trends. The outcome from this is three pages of charts and cometary one each for:

Hard Disks

Flash Memory

RAM

Occasionally, in addition to those annual reports I produce some commentary on storage trends. Here's some articles I've created:

I created a page comparing the price improvements of flash with hard drives to see if we can get some indication of when, if ever, that flash will overtake hard disks as the most economical method of on-line storage.

I did a quick study on software bloat to get an idea of whether the problem is real or mostly imagined.

I'll keeping a page up to date on which drive size currently represents the best bang for buck.

I went looking for data in how much more power efficient flash drives were than hard disks but I wasn't able to find anything suitable.

Hence, I made my own page on the power usage of flash.
